This carefully crafted 10-day journey combines one of the world’s great railway experiences with Tibet’s essential highlights.

Beginning in Chengdu, you’ll take the spectacular Qinghai-Tibet Railway to Lhasa, allowing gradual acclimatization to high altitude.

Day 1: Chengdu to Lhasa by Train

Today we’re boarding the iconic Chengdu-to-Lhasa train—one of the most epic rail journeys in the world.

Get ready for two full days of unreal scenery, high-altitude vibes, and slowly leaving the hustle of Sichuan behind as we chug toward the Tibetan Plateau. Overnight on board in comfortable sleeper cabins.

Spent the whole day glued to the window! We passed through endless grasslands, snow-peaked mountains, and even spotted yaks roaming freely.

The train climbs steadily, and you can really feel the air getting thinner.

Arrive at Lhasa Station in the afternoon. After transfer to your hotel, the remainder of the day is free for rest and acclimatization.

Afternoon exploration focuses on Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s holiest shrine, surrounded by the bustling pilgrim circuit of Barkhor Street.

Depart Lhasa for the drive to Shigatse, crossing the 4,790m-high Gampa La pass. Stop at Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, renowned for its stunning turquoise waters.

Continue past the Karola glacier (5,010m) before arriving in Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city.

Most of our guests choose to fly into Tibet, with many domestic cities offering flights to Lhasa. It’s the quickest way, usually taking 1-3 hours, compared to over 20 hours by train. Train tickets can only be booked 15 days in advance.

Large luggage can be stored in the vehicle or left at hotels during your stay. You’ll only need to carry personal items and anything you might need for the day’s activities.
